My name is Carlos Schouten, and I proudly call La Bagatelle Leguan in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. As a laborer, I cherish the simple yet profound connections I have with my community and the land that sustains us. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve been shaped by the warmth of our traditional hospitality, where a gathering often includes sharing our beloved dishes like pepperpot and metemgee, alongside a cold glass of mauby to quench your thirst after a long day’s work.
Living in a place rich in natural beauty, with its rivers and lush landscapes, I often find myself reflecting on the stories that bind us as Guyanese. From the vibrant markets of Stabroek to the serene banks of the Pomeroon River, these are not just settings—they are the backdrop of our lives, where friendships are forged and memories are made.
