Hello! My name is Garifield Edwards, and I proudly call Capoey Lake in Essequibo, Pomeroon-Supenaam, my home. As a miner, I spend my days working hard to extract the rich resources that our beautiful land offers. Guyana is a place filled with vibrant culture, from the flavors of pepperpot and cook-up rice to the rhythms of our local music that echo through the streets. Every day, Iām reminded of the strength and resilience of our people, and I strive to reflect that in my work.
Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of Essequibo, I have developed a deep appreciation for our natural treasures, whether it's the breathtaking view of the Pomeroon River or the lush greenery that characterizes our region. The warmth of our communities and the rich stories shared among neighbors remind me of the importance of family and friendship. I often find myself engaging with the diaspora, sharing Guyanese heritage and experiences, whether it be through food, culture, or tales of our landmarks like the majestic Kaieteur Falls.
As I continue my journey in mining, I also cherish the connections I've made with folks from the Guyanese diaspora.
