Welcome to my corner of the world! Iām Kaddar Kellawan, a proud boat builder from the vibrant community of Jacklow in Upper Pomeroon, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and flowing rivers of Guyana has deeply influenced my work. Each boat I craft is a testament to our rich maritime heritage, designed not only for fishing but as a vessel for stories and memories that connect us to our ancestors and the diaspora that has spread across the globe.
In my spare time, you can find me enjoying a hearty plate of cook-up rice after a long day in the workshop, or sharing a laugh with neighbors over a game of dominoes. I believe in the importance of community and the bonds we share, especially among those of us who have moved abroad. It's essential to keep our traditions alive, whether it's through festivals like Mashramani or simply passing down recipes for pepperpot or cassava bread. Our culture is resilient, and it thrives wherever we find ourselves.
As I build boats that sail the waters of Guyana, I also navigate the connections back to our homeland from afar. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
