Greetings! I’m Merissa Amsterdam, a passionate teacher based on the beautiful Essequibo Coast in Reliance Housing, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I have always been immersed in the vibrant culture that our land offers. Whether it’s savoring the life-changing flavors of Guyanese Chinese food or enjoying a hearty plate of pepperpot during the holidays, I believe that food is a gateway to understanding our diverse heritage.
As a proud Guyanese, I cherish the rich history and natural beauty of our country, from the iconic Kaieteur Falls to the lush rainforests filled with unique wildlife. With the recent discoveries of oil, I see Guyana transforming in exciting yet complex ways, and I’m eager to contribute positively to our community’s growth. My goal as an educator is to inspire the next generation to appreciate our roots while embracing the future with open arms.
