Hello! I’m Hame-Chand, a proud labourer from Essequibo Naamryck on the East Bank of Pomeroon-Supenaam. My roots run deep in this vibrant land where the Pomeroon River flows, a lifeline for our communities and a source of cherished memories. Growing up, I was surrounded by the warmth of my family and the rich flavors of our local cuisine—think pepperpot on special occasions and fresh fish from the river. These experiences fostered a love for our culture and its traditions, which I carry with me no matter where I go.
Living in the diaspora, I connect with fellow Guyanese who share my passion for our homeland. The comments I see online often remind me of the pride we take in our identity, whether it’s discussing the beauty of our landscape or the struggles faced by our people. Like many, I’ve witnessed the complexities of our political landscape and the resilience of our community, where Black and brown friendships flourish despite the challenges. It's a reminder that our shared experiences can unite us, even from afar.
As I continue my journey, I find solace in knowing that no matter the distance, the spirit of Guyana lives in us all.
