Hello! My name is Derrick Watson, and I call the vibrant region of Pomeroon in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a miner, I spend my days unearthing the rich resources that lie beneath our land, contributing to the local economy and supporting my community. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of connecting with the earth and knowing that my work plays a part in our nation's growth.
Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of the Pomeroon River, I've developed a deep appreciation for the natural beauty and cultural richness of Guyana. From the delicious flavors of pepperpot and metemgee to the rhythms of our traditional music, every aspect of our culture tells a story. I love to share these experiences with friends and family, whether it’s enjoying a Sunday meal together or celebrating at local festivals. Although many of us are part of the diaspora, the bonds we maintain with our homeland and each other are unbreakable.
Life in Guyana is not without its challenges, and I understand the concerns about the cost of living and poverty echoed by many in our community. However, I believe in highlighting our strengths and addressing the issues we face together. Whether through sharing our stories or calling attention to the need for change, we can work towards a brighter future for all Guyanese, both at home and abroad. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
