Hello! My name is Kim De Mattos, and I am a dedicated teacher based in the beautiful region of Pomeroon, Pomeroon-Supenaam. I have a deep passion for education and a strong commitment to nurturing young minds within our vibrant community. Growing up in Guyana, I have been immensely influenced by the rich cultural heritage of our land, from the lush landscapes along the Pomeroon River to the flavors of our iconic dish, pepperpot. These experiences shape not only my teaching approach but also my deep connection with my students and their families.
Having traveled to various corners of our beloved country, I carry a sense of pride in sharing the unique stories of Guyana, whether it’s the history of British Guiana or the warmth of our diverse communities. I believe in the importance of connecting our youth to their roots, helping them understand the significance of our multicultural society. I often encourage my students to explore their heritage, be it through traditional crafts, songs, or the celebration of local festivals that reflect our shared identity.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I hold a special place for those who have ventured abroad, like many of your family members from Pom River Grant, Mocha, and beyond. I cherish the stories they bring back and the connections we maintain. Together, we celebrate our culture, whether through our music that echoes back to travels from 2008 or through the names and places that carry our legacy.
